YOUR HEALTH:
Keeping your memory sharp for the rest of your life.
Many believe that memory loss only affect people when they are seniors, by some respect that is true but, many will experience some type of degree of memory loss by the early 30’s.
Have you ever thought about something, and in the same instance you forgot, we will call it “senior moment, even if we are no where to being a senior citizen.
Dr. Gary W. Small MD, director UCLA Center on Aging states that lifestyle choices is one of the biggest components that many people don’t realize. He continues to states that even one small change in lifestyle can make a difference in memory loss. e.g. eating salmon once a week or walking for 10 minutes can help boost your memory.
Dr. Small says “What’s good for the heart is good for the brain”. Keeping the blood flowing through the brain as well as the heart keeps everyone mentally sharp. Let’s cover a few steps that will assist us in keeping our memory sharp for life.
1. Control the Stress that comes into your life. Too much stress can cause some people not just mental pain, but body pain, headaches, stomach pains etc.
2. Practice Mental Aerobics as often as possible. Watching television is not a really good mental aerobics. Being social with others and stimulating activities does well to keep the brain in better condition.
3. Eating plenty of antioxidants foods does a lot to help our brains function well, such as; broccoli, all types of berries, cherries, prunes, raisins, juices and tea, these are things that our parents and grand parents made us eat when we were younger, they help us stay strong. Today we eat process foods, I will not say which ones, and you know what I’m talking about? Antioxidants help protect our brain cells from damage. (If you have food allergies, please consult with your health care physician)
There are a few more steps we will discuss after we get a dialogue on this subject.
Remember; Listen to your body, never allow pains and or discomforts to persist for long extended periods of time without giving them attention, pain is your body’s signal to alert you that something is happening that needs attention. Listen to your body.
We will continue with more health knowledge next time…….
